Our last seminar was held on May 4th, 2013 at the Boston Marriott / Quincy in Quincy, MA.
From time to time, usually once a quarter, The New England Regional Council of Carpenters, along with the New England Carpenters Benefits Fund, Ameriprise Financial and First Trade Union Bank, hold a half day seminar where they provide union members with important information about a host of topics of importance in financial planning for retirement. Seminars are held in various locations including the new Carpenters Center in Dorchester, the Carpenters Training Center in Milbury, MA and at suburban hotels that are more accessible for members.
In a few short hours you'll be given a clear understanding of your pension, annuity and health benefit options at retirement. In addition, a representative from Ameriprise Financial will provide information on planning for retirement, tax deferred savings options, what to expect in terms of future income streams and valuable information about estate planning, transfer of assets and what you should know in case you or a family member requires long term medical care.
The seminars provide important information for everyone and it's never too soon to start thinking about your financial future. However, if you've been working for a number of years and retirement is the foreseeable future then you should take advantage of the opportunity.
We encourage you to bring your spouse along and also to let friends know. However, please be aware that the seminar and its content are designed for carpenters and their families. We encourage you to pass the word to fellow members but, unfortunately, this is not an appropriate seminar for non members.
The seminar is free and is another important benefit of union membership.
Absolutely. Invitations are sent to members who reside in reasonable proximity to the seminar site and seating is limited to about 100 (depending on the venue's occupancy restrictions). Also, by notifying us of your intent to attend, the Carpenters Benefits Fund will bring up to date information related to your pension and annuity benefits along with an estimate of what you can expect to receive when you do retire.
You have two options for signing up:
If possible, please have UBC Member ID when you register. This will allow the Funds Office to research your accounts and provide personalized benefit estimates to you at the seminar.
Absolutely not. These seminars are designed to provide members with information only. Discussion about retirement services such as IRA's and other tax deferred savings plans will be presented but only so that you understand their overall importance in a retirement planning strategy.
We will provide a continental breakfast starting at 8:00 am and the seminar begins at 8:30am and should wrap up about 12:00pm after which we will provide you with complimentary lunch.
Please check this page often for information on upcoming retirement planning seminars.
